Study: Obese Women More Likely to Deliver Stillborn Baby

Obese women are more likely to deliver stillborn babies than normal-size women, according to studies presented a meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. They are also more likely to have an unplanned pregnancy.

Canadian researchers discovered that women with a body mass index of 30 or more, before pregnancy, had a significantly increased risk of delivering a stillborn infant.

Researchers also found that obese women were more likely to have poor results using birth control pills than slimmer women, speculating that the failure may be linked to metabolism rates in obese women that result in insufficient drug levels in the blood to prevent pregnancy.
